Ros Sokleak is the most dominant clinch fighter of the current generation, a throwback to the heavy plum-and-knee style that defined Cambodian welterweights of the 1990s and early 2000s, adapted for the faster pace of modern televised cards. He came up through the provincial gym network in Kampong Cham, training under an old Kru who had himself fought in the immediate post-UNTAC revival years and who drilled the traditional Khmer clinch obsessively. Sokleak spent the early part of his career on small rural cards before being signed to Bayon TV in 2020, where his suffocating style quickly produced ratings as opponents repeatedly broke under his pressure. His 2022 Bayon TV title fight, in which he stopped a heavily favored opponent in the fourth round with a sustained clinch barrage, is still cited as one of the definitive clinch performances of the decade. He reclaimed the title in 2024 after a brief setback and added the CNC Kun Khmer tournament crown in 2023 with three consecutive stoppage wins. Sokleak is unusual among modern fighters in that he has largely resisted the move toward Western-style strength and conditioning, preferring traditional bodyweight work, log-lifting, and long roadwork on Kampong Cham's rural roads. He says the old methods produce the kind of grinding endurance the clinch requires.

Chap Kor with Bok Chong Khnong (Plum Lock with Straight Knee)

The Chap Kor with Bok Chong Khnong is the defining weapon in Ros Sokleak's arsenal. This technique, deeply rooted in the traditional Kun Khmer striking system, became synonymous with "The Constrictor" throughout their career.

រចនាប័ទ្មប្រយុទ្ធ

Sokleak's entire game is built around one objective: secure the plum and break the opponent. He stalks forward behind a stiff jab and low kicks, absorbing return fire to close the distance, then locks the double-collar tie with unusual leverage and begins delivering straight knees to the body and head. His pummeling is exceptional — he can recover a lost grip mid-exchange and re-establish control faster than most opponents can frame out. Once locked in, he uses subtle off-balancing pulls and knee placement to keep opponents on a single leg, draining their energy before finishing with a heavy knee up the middle.

បេតិកភណ្ឌ

Ros Sokleak has kept the traditional Khmer clinch game alive and competitive in an era when many fighters have drifted toward longer-range kickboxing styles. His success on Bayon TV broadcasts has been a quiet correction against that trend, demonstrating that the deep clinch tradition remains a winning approach when executed at the highest level. Young clinch specialists from across the provinces now travel to Kampong Cham specifically to train with him, helping ensure the style is passed on to the next generation rather than fading.
