Biography

Vorn Viva is considered one of the greatest elbow technicians in Kun Khmer history, known for his ability to open cuts and finish fights with devastating elbow strikes from unorthodox angles. Growing up near the temples of Angkor, he began training at age eight under a Kru who had learned from pre-war masters. His career spanned the golden age of televised Kun Khmer in Cambodia, making him a household name through weekly broadcasts on Bayon TV and TVK. Viva was renowned for his ability to set up elbows using feints and footwork that belied the conventional image of Khmer fighters as pure clinch specialists. He retired in 2006 with one of the longest winning streaks in Cambodian lightweight history.

Bayon TV Championship Winner (2001)

Signature Technique

Bat Koun Veng (Spinning Elbow)

The Bat Koun Veng is the defining weapon in Vorn Viva's arsenal. This technique, deeply rooted in the traditional Kun Khmer striking system, became synonymous with "The Elbow Assassin" throughout their career.

Fighting Style

Viva was a technical counter-striker who specialized in drawing opponents into exchanges where he could land his trademark elbows. Unlike many fighters of his era, he emphasized lateral movement and angles rather than purely forward pressure. His elbow combinations were often set up by quick jabs and teep kicks that disrupted his opponents' rhythm before he closed the distance.

Legacy

Vorn Viva elevated the elbow game in Kun Khmer to an art form, demonstrating that the traditional Khmer emphasis on elbow strikes could be combined with sophisticated ring craft. His fights remain essential viewing for any student of Khmer boxing, and his techniques are still taught in gyms across Cambodia as the gold standard for elbow work.
